Music: Philipp Poisel

Did you ever think that German could sound this amazing? For those of us with an untrained ear, German can sound sometimes like a harsh language, similar to our Russian or Polish cousins, but Philipp Poisel is waking up our ear palettes with his down-to-earth songs of love and lust lost.

Over simple guitar strings, Poisel pours his soul into every uttered word sometimes mumbling through a song, a trait that can be unfavorable to certain artists but it seems to work excellently for Poisel.

He looks like the shy chubby kid next door with messy hair and an uncertain frame, but once he begins to sing you get the feeling that the guy has had a lifespan of emotions. Anyone who has ever fallen deeply in love, or has been passionately affected by someone, could immediately identity with his music. You do not need to speak German to get it. It is all there in his unusual voice, tone and overall feeling of the artist.

Poisel’s fans get it. His concerts sell out and his songs stay on top of the German pop charts for weeks. As a testament to his success, Poisel has recently been nominated for Germany’s ECHO prize this year as Best German Pop Artist.

This singer/songwriter creates beautiful music that hits right at the core of our deepest human emotions of love and life experience. If you have never heard a German song in your life then Poisel’s Eiserner Steg, or Iron Bridge, will be a novel experience that will positively introduce you to the new pop sounds of Germany.
